ABOUT THE GREENDIMES SERVICE

What types of junk mail does GreenDimes help reduce?
GreenDimes reduces credit offers, insurance offers, sweepstakes offers, coupon mailers, charitable solicitations and retail catalogs that your household receives. We can't reduce mailings you receive as a result of a relationship you have with a company or organization. These include magazine subscriptions, bank statements, brokerage statements and school alumni mailings. Please contact those organizations directly to manage your mail with them.
What is the difference between the GreenDimes Basic service and the Premium service?
The GreenDimes Basic junk mail service that provides you with all the tools and information you need to do-it-yourself. You'll be provided with access to our Basic Catalog Screener that provides you with the information you need to contact those catalogs and direct mail lists that you want to be removed from. Don't want to spend the time to do-it-yourself? Then upgrade to our Premium service and we'll do all the work for you.
Is my $20 GreenDimes Premium service fee a monthly or yearly subscription?
Neither! You'll be happy to know that the $20 fee is a ONE TIME fee only! You will not be charged again. Our experience shows that most users can see junk mail reduction that lasts as long as 3 to 5 years. However, through various purchasing activities, it is not uncommon for some people to get onto new junk mail lists even after signing up for our service. If this occurs (or if you move and your address changes), please consider our GreenDimes Refresh service (50% off the new user rate) to have a new junk mail removal process started on your behalf.
How do I get started once I've signed up? What are my next steps after purchasing my membership?
There are some easy steps to reduce your junk mail. Check out the How it Works page for a quick overview of how our service works. After you have signed up, be sure to use the Catalog Screener to opt out of your catalogs. Also, you will need to sign and mail the postcards that we will send to you. If you move, remember to sign up the Refresh service. Last but not least, sign the GreenDimes, "Do Not Mail Me" online petition to help us end junk mail once and for all.
How long will it take for me to see the results of my GreenDimes service?
It will take at least 3 months for you to see a reduction in your junk mail after purchasing one of our services. Why so long? Most junk mail have address labels printed months in advance so it takes until the next circulation cycle for results to be seen. And catalogs can take even longer, up to 6 months.
How long does my GreenDimes service last?
For most of our customers, GreenDimes service should continue to reduce junk mail for approximately 3 to 5 years. However, many purchasing activities can cause your name to be added to new lists and may result in new junk mail. If this is happening to you (or if you move and your address changes), consider our GreenDimes Refresh service (50% off the new user rate) to have a new junk mail removal process started on your behalf.
Does the $20 Premium service cover the additional members in my household?
Yes! Our GreenDimes Premium and Green Bundle services remove junk mail and unwanted catalogs for an unlimited number of household names including variations of your name, housemates, and prior tenants. We strongly recommend that you take advantage of this feature. Adding additional names to your account is easy! After you have signed up, login to your account and click on the ADD NAMES tab on your account home page.
I have more than one mailing address, do I need to sign-up for service at both?
Yes, each membership covers a single address. To sign up for additional addresses, visit http://www.greendimes.com and click the "Get Started" link. When you reach the "Create an Account" section of the process, be sure to click the "I already have an account / Login." This way, you will be able to manage all your addresses with the same login information.
Is the GreenDimes service available outside the US and/or are you aware of any similar programs?
At this time, GreenDimes only reduces junk mail within the U.S. We are busy researching effective ways to provide these tools in other countries, but we are unaware of similar programs at this time.
Can you stop junk mail to business addresses or even a business that is run out of a residence?
GreenDimes cannot currently reduce junk mail addressed to businesses.
Can you reduce mail that is addressed to 'Resident', 'Occupant' or 'Our Friends at'?
Yes! Our automated system contacts companies that maintain and sell these lists. A handful of others require your signature for this, so we create a set of postcards for you to stamp, sign and send directly to those companies. You'll receive your postcards within 4 weeks after signing up.
Are you a non-profit and is my purchase tax deductible?
Although our mission is to do good things for the planet, GreenDimes is a for-profit organization and your purchases are not tax deductible. We believe we can do even more good in the world, and faster, as a business.
Does GreenDimes offer a Money-back Guarantee?
Yes! We are so confident that we can significantly reduce your junk mail that we'll refund your money if it doesn't work. Usually, we find that those for whom the service doesn't work have not filled out and sent in the required postcards we provide to Premium service members (please contact customerservice@greendimes.com if you did not receive them), or they have not signed into their accounts and used our Catalog Screener to select catalogs they wish not to receive. If those things have been done and you're still not satisfied, we will happily refund your money.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE ARE LIMITATIONS TO OUR MONEY-BACK GUARANTEE.

Because removing junk mail takes time, we will only honor refund requests 120 days after you initiate the service. Also, the money-back guarantee is available only for 1 year after service initiation. If you are experiencing new junk mail after the 1 year limit on the money back guarantee, it may be because your purchasing activities have caused you to be put on new junk mail lists, or that you have moved and your address has changed. If that's the case, please consider our GreenDimes Refresh service (50% off the new user rate) to have a new junk mail removal process started on your behalf. Also, please note that we do not offer refunds for merchandise or items included in our bundles, only the service fee. To request a refund for your GreenDimes service, please contact customerservice@greendimes.com.
Do you accept other forms of payment such as a personal check or PayPal?
GreenDimes can only accept major credit cards for payment at this time. *Please* do not send us checks, as we are unable to process them. We would just have to send it back to you and waste an envelope.

MANAGING YOUR ACCOUNT

How do I know when you've opted me out of a mailing list?
We opt you out of several major direct marketer mailing lists within a few days after you sign-up. Then as you add catalogs and non-profit organizations to your "Manage My Mail" List, we'll contact them in less than a week. If you're still receiving their mail 3 months after adding them to your list, please come back and let us know.
What does the "status" mean on the "Add Catalogs" page?
New: This is a new request and GreenDimes team member is currently submitting the request. Please check back soon to view updates to the status of this request.
Pending: A GreenDimes team member has submitted this request to the mailer and we are awaiting confirmation. Please check back soon to view updates to the status of this request.
Researching: We have received this submission and are in the process of getting you removed from the mailing list. Please check back soon to view updates to the status of this request.
Completed: This request has been completed! You should stop receiving this catalog in the next few weeks. Should you see this catalog return, simply click on the "Re-request" button.
Action Required: This catalog requires your attention as the mailer you've requested does not allow us to remove you from their list on your behalf.
Need More Info: We couldn't find this catalog in our database, so we need additional information from you in order to complete this request.
Re-Request: If you receive a catalog that you've previously opted-out of, just click on the "Re-Request" button and we'll follow-up on this catalog for you.
Why do my "Add Catalogs" and "Add/View Names" tabs not appear when I log in?
If these tabs do not appear, then your junk mail service is not active. It's likely there was a problem processing your payment or an issue with your gift redemption. If you received an email receipt confirming your order and you are still not able to access catalogs or names, be sure to forward your order confirmation email over to our support team so they can help resolve this for you. Please forward your confirmation to: customerservice@greendimes.com.

If you use our GreenDimes Basic service, you will not see the "Add/View Names" tab as our do-it-yourself service only supports one household name. You may upgrade to GreenDimes Premium as a more efficient way to manage multiple and past household names.
I just received my postcards, but I'm concerned that I don't know any of these companies by name. Aren't you only sending me postcards for the companies I added to my account?
The postcards you received are for a handful of direct marketing companies that require a signature from someone in the household who is opting out of their lists. This will put you and your household members on their suppression list so that your information is not sold, traded or shared in the future.
I have an active subscription to Reader's Digest magazine. Will signing and sending this postcard interfere with my subscription?
Absolutely not! This postcard will just let them know that they are not to share, trade or sell your information to any outside 3rd party companies.
I haven't received my Account Info/Password/Invite email from GreenDimes. What happened?
You may not get an email from us for one of two reasons. If the email address you provided has a typo or misspelling, the email will go to the wrong mailbox. If this is not the reason, sometimes our emails may be stopped by your email spam filtering software. Please add customerservice@greendimes.com to your address book so that our e-mails aren't blocked.
It's been more than 90 days - Why isn't my GreenDimes service working?
Usually, we find that people who feel that the service isn't working have not completed the whole GreenDimes process. Often, they have not filled out and mailed the postcards we provide to Premium service members (please contact customerservice@greendimes.com if you did not receive them). Also, it's very common that users who still receive lots of catalogs have not signed into their accounts and used our Catalog Screener to select catalogs they wish not to receive. We can't know what to remove if we don't know what you receive!
How do I change my password or update my email address?
You can change your password or update your email address by logging into your GreenDimes account. Then, click on the "Update Password" link found on the "My Account Home" page. Enter your new information and click "Update" to save your changes.

GIFTING AND GIFT REDEMPTION

Do you have a gift certificate that I can print out and give to the recipient of my eGift?
Yes, we have a printable gift certificate available for download here. After you purchase an eGift, an email will be sent to you with the coupon code which you will need to write on the gift certificate. You can also view the gift code by clicking the "My Gifts" tab when logged into your GreenDimes account.
What if I purchased a gift and the recipient is not interested? Can I re-gift to someone else?
Yes you can! Gifts are processed in dollar amounts and can be used by whoever holds the coupon code.
Can I buy an eGift or sign-up a friend or family member who doesn't have an email address?
You certainly can, but please note that an email address is required for both the gift and the regular service options. If this is a friend or family member that you want to help sign-up and you're ok with helping them manage their account, you can use your email address and their membership information will be linked to your existing login. This will not interfere with your account.

GREENDIMES MERCHANDISE & APPAREL

Who makes the light bulbs? And how bright are they?
The Energy Star Mini Spiral Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs are manufactured by Greenlite Lighting Corporation, an international corporation with over 20 years of experience in energy efficient lighting products. These CFL bulbs are 13Watts, which is equivalent to a 60Watt standard light bulb. The light output is 900 Lumens and average life of bulb is 10,000 hours.
Who makes the GreenDimes bags and what are they made of?
The re-useable bag is supplied by ChicoBag, using fair labor and fair wage manufacturing. Made of strong and durable woven nylon, one bag holds up to 20 lbs and measures 18in x 18in outside of pouch and 3in x 4in when stuffed in the pouch.
Where are GreenDimes t-shirts produced?
Our T-shirts are produced in downtown LA by American Apparel, a vertically integrated, made-in-the-USA, sweatshop-free enterprise.
What is the GreenDimes Store return policy?
Sorry, all sales in the GreenDimes Store are final. No returns or exchanges.
When will my merchandise ship?
Please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery of your merchandise. If you encounter problems with your shipment, or it doesn't arrive, please contact customerservice@greendimes.com.

It's easy to become an Affiliate. We give you banners and a special link which you post on your web site or in your e-newsletter. You can add some copy like, "Help [your organization] and the environment." When someone purchases a GreenDimes service via your link, you receive 15%. That's all there is to it. What are some things I can do to protect myself from getting back on the junk mail lists or added to more lists?
Here are a few ways to protect yourself from getting yourself on junk mail lists:

1. When you move, do not fill out the permanent Change of Address form with the USPS, make sure you only submit a temporary Change of Address form.

2. If you donate to charities, use online services which allow you to donate anonymously. By donating anonymously online, you are protecting yourself from having your information shared with other organizations. This way, you can still give to your favorite organization and you can track your donations online for tax purposes too!

3. Do not complete sweepstakes forms in print or online.
Where do you plant the trees?
GreenDimes supports 3 non-profit tree-planting partners: American Forests, Sustainable Harvest International and Trees for the Future. These partners have programs in India, Haiti, Senegal, throughout Central America and in the U.S. Check out our Impact page for more information about these organizations.
How do I know your site is secure?
When you input and send personal data to GreenDimes, your transmission will be protected by Secure Socket Layer (SSL). SSL is a technology that encrypts your information during transmission. Your information is stored on our servers located in the United States. We treat data as an asset that must be protected and use the industry standard tools (encryption, passwords, physical security, etc.) to protect your personal information against unauthorized access and disclosure.
